The SHV is committed to the interests of hang gliding sports

• ensures the greatest possible freedom for hang gliding sports and represents its interests with regard to the public, the federal government, the canton, communities, associations and the private sector
• maintains contacts with associations, public authorities, sports committees etc. at a national and international level
• is committed to the recognition of the Swiss Hang glider license and thus to Swiss pilots' authorisation to fly abroad
• is committed to securing flying sites in cooperation with SHV clubs
• promotes development and safety in hang gliding sports
• is commissioned by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation for the management of training issues, the conducting of examinations and the entire pilots’ licensing system
• carries out quality assurance of new flight schools and organizes training courses for flight instructors
• provides active assistance for events, conducts national and international competitions, and enables each SHV member to participate in association competitions
• supports the Swiss Delta and Paragliding Leagues as well as the national team
