The SHV - Your association

The SHV, a short profile

The SHV was founded in 1974 - shortly after the appearance of the first deltas in Switzerland. The initially small association of a few delta pioneers has grown today into a strong association with around 20,000 members. The SHV is committed to the interests and sustainability of free flight; on behalf of the Federal Office of Civil Aviation, the SHV maintains the hang glider register, conducts pilot examinations and issues the Official Swiss Pilot's Licences. The broad spectrum of our sport ranges from hiking paraglider pilots (hike and fly) to fixed-wing pilots with electric motors. The SHV maintains an office in Zurich with 14 employees. The association is headed by a board of directors, currently with seven members. The highest control body is the General Assembly.

Why is it worth joining the SHV?

  • Affordable and high-performing liability insurance
  • Free License Administration
  • Free legal protection insurance for aviation matters
  • Advice and assistance in all matters to do with our sport
  • High-quality and informative members' magazine "Swiss Glider”
  • Exclusive and very high-quality weather forecasts from MeteoSwiss
  • Support and representation of pilot interests with regard to authorities, insurance companies, associations and the public in all areas (above all preservation of airspace and flying sites)
  • Each member benefits indirectly from the SHV's commitment to safety (accident prevention, improvement of training and further education, further development of equipment, etc.) and international cooperation
  • Various special services such as eLearning for the theory examination, special discounts on insurance products, and an exclusive SHV credit card

Only a strong association is able to support our - occasionally exposed - sport. As a member you make a solidarity contribution to the benefit of all pilots.
